Get to Kyoto via Osaka Station
One straightforward rail route is JR Taisho → Osaka on the Osaka Loop Line, then change to the JR Kyoto Line for Kyoto Station. This route has one transfer before Kyoto Station; reaching your chosen attraction requires a further local journey.
Check the service, destination and current route for your travel date. Include the house-to-station walk, interchange and waiting time when choosing your departure; do not plan the whole day around the rail segment alone.

Option A: focus on Fushimi Inari Taisha
At Kyoto Station, change to a JR Nara Line train stopping at Inari. Fushimi Inari Taisha is immediately outside JR Inari Station. Check the destination and stopping pattern for your travel date.
Make the shrine the main stop, pause for lunch, and decide on any extra walking together. For a mixed-age group, agree on a meeting point and a comfortable turnaround before anyone heads further up the hill.
Option B: a Higashiyama and Kiyomizu-dera day
If your priority is Kiyomizu-dera and the surrounding streets, make Higashiyama the main area instead. From Kyoto Station, follow the temple’s current access guidance for a bus or rail connection plus walking; Kyoto Station is not the temple entrance.
Expect slopes and walking, and allow extra time for crowds. The temple warns that some map-app routes do not reach its grounds; use its official entrance and wheelchair-access information where needed. Check current visiting hours before leaving Osaka.
Keep the day comfortable for the whole group
As a planning suggestion, choose either Fushimi Inari or Higashiyama for a first Kyoto day, with lunch and breaks in the same area. Save other districts for another visit instead of making every stop essential.
Keep bags light and follow local signs on photography and private streets. Speak quietly in residential and religious areas, then check your return connections before leaving Kyoto. Back in Taisho, your group can meet again at the same house.
